Communications Design for the Brooklyn Bail Fund

How can we ensure clients return for their court date once money has been posted for their bail? That was the challenge posed by the Brooklyn Community Bail Fund when they enlisted support in launching the new initiative. I worked as a member of the team that defined the client criteria, and created supporting communications materials to bring clarity to an emotional and confusing process.

Graphic design won't singlehandedly solve the problems of the criminal justice system. But after speaking with public defenders and their defendants, our team learned that defendants felt confused by the judicial processes. In support of the bail fund's goals of high return rates, we designed a set of materials to clarify, and organize the process for defendants.
